The National League kicked off with an exciting encounter between Hartlepool United and Barrow AFC at Victoria Park. Will Harris, making his debut for Hartlepool United, opened the scoring just before half-time after taking Brooklyn Ilunga's cross in stride and finishing left-footed past Barrow’s goalkeeper. Jack Nolan added to the home side's tally late in the game, slotting the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Barrow AFC had several chances but failed to convert them. Adam Murray's side started brightly with Kennedy Dijie having an unmarked header at a corner blocked on the line and Innes Cameron narrowly missing out on putting Rakeem Harper through. Hartlepool United also created opportunities, with Jack Nolan’s shot going wide of the post.
The match had its share of bizarre moments, including a referee error where he blew for half-time only to realize there was still a minute left. Despite Barrow AFC's efforts and close calls, they could not find the equalizer as Hartlepool United held on to secure their first win of the season.
