Hartlepool United suffered a fifth straight National League defeat, losing 1-0 at home to Harrogate Town on Tuesday. Bailey Hobson scored the only goal eight minutes into the second half to secure the points for the visitors.

Hobson finished simply after being set up by Will McGowan, who won the ball deep in Hartlepool's half. The goal was Hobson's fourth in his last five matches. Harrogate goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson was forced into an early save by Charlie Thornton, while at the other end, Brad Dolaghan was thwarted by Hartlepool's Max Thompson in a goalless first period.

Hartlepool's C. John received a yellow card in the 20th minute. Dolaghan was also cautioned for Harrogate in the 57th minute. Hartlepool manager Kevin Phillips made a double change at halftime, introducing T. Bondo and J. Benn for Thornton and N. Eccleston. Further substitutions saw L. Charman and J. Nolan come on just after the hour, with B. Ilunga replacing the cautioned John in the 71st minute.

The result leaves Hartlepool 21st in the National League with just nine points from eleven games. Hartlepool, having lost five consecutive league matches, face a key test in their next fixture at home to 22nd placed Tamworth this Saturday, a team just one point below them in the table.
