The curtains fell on Hartlepool United’s Enterprise National League season with a familiar sting in the tail, as the lads slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Boston United at the Jakemans Community Stadium. It wasn’t the celebratory final bow many of the Blue and White Army had hoped for, marking a somewhat anticlimactic end to a campaign that, at times, felt like a rollercoaster ride of emotions and results.

From the off, it was clear the Pilgrims were keen to assert their authority on their home turf. We started to create a few half-chances, with crosses flashing across the box and speculative efforts from range. Our perseverance finally paid off when we pulled one back, a well-taken goal that offered a glimmer of hope and briefly quieted the home faithful. It felt like a lifeline, a chance to claw our way back into the contest. However, any hopes of a dramatic comeback were quickly extinguished. As the final whistle blew, signalling the end of proceedings, it was a result that perhaps mirrored some of the frustrations of the season – moments of promise overshadowed by lapses in concentration.
