The former Morecambe forward was one of the most high-profile captures of a hectic summer at Victoria Park as Pools fought off competition from clubs in the EFL and National League to secure the 25-year-old on a two-year deal. After scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists in 39 appearances for The Shrimps during their unsuccessful battle against relegation from the top tier of non-league football, there was great excitement over what Nolan could add to a new look Pools squad as they embarked on life under new head coach Clark. The Victoria Park faithful were given an immediate indication of what Nolan will offer as he produced a lively display in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Barrow as the versatile winger grabbed his side’s second goal of the game with a neat finish from the edge of the area that confirmed Clark’s men had kicked off their season with a deserved win. The Pools head coach delivered a positive assessment of Nolan’s ability after his impressive debut - and revealed the impact the summer signing had already made behind the scenes at The Vic. Speaking after Saturday’s win, he said: “Jack’s got that ability to slow defenders down, drop the shoulder and he took his goal really well. He’s a terrific talent. He’s going to be one of them where one day you’ll be jumping down the touchline with him and other days you’ll be pulling your hair out, but you’ve got to be prepared for that. You’ve got to expect that because we don’t want to knock out that flair he’s got. “He can do something different and you need that in the final third. He’s really brave. He’ll take the ball anywhere on the pitch and drive at defenders – that’s something we really liked about him, and he’s a great character around the place. He’s very popular.” Hartlepool United currently sit 9th in the England National League, 40 points behind leaders York, with 54 goals scored and 59 conceded this season. They next face Eastleigh at home on August 28th.
